Scholarships and Grants
The University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi provides opportunities for financially disadvantaged students to pursue higher education as part of its commitment to academic excellence. Its scholarships and financial assistance programs are designed to support underprivileged yet intellectually capable students.
INTERNAL SCHOLARSHIPS
For Basic Education Department (Junior High School and Senior High School)
- Arts Scholarship – Granted to students participating in the Chorale, Dance Troupe, and other recognized performing arts programs. Auditions are conducted at the end of the school year.
For Tertiary Education
- Rector’s Scholarship – The scholarship is awarded to students who graduated from Senior High School with the highest honors. It is granted to only one student per board program on a semestral basis, subject to a retention policy.
- Requirements
- U-CAT result with 85% API or higher
- Senior High School report card with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 95% or higher
- Certificate of Good Moral Character from the Guidance Counselor or recommendation from the Parish Priest
- Certificate of Good Health from the University Physician or Practicing Physician
- Interview with the Rector and President
- One (1) piece 2″x2″ picture
- Retention Policy
- He/she has obtained a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 96% or higher with no grade below 92% in any subject;
- He/she is currently an officer or active member of any accredited organization in the University; and
- He/she must not have been subjected to any disciplinary action.
- Privileges
- 100% discount on tuition and miscellaneous fees
- Allowances (meals, uniform, transportation, books)
2. Sports Scholarship – The scholarship is granted to highly talented student in sports such as basketball, badminton, table tennis, volleyball, and athletics. The scholarship is open to students in all programs
- Requirements
- U-CAT result with 75% API or higher
- Senior High School report card with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 82%
- Certificate of Good Moral Character from the Guidance Counselor or recommendation from the Parish Priest
- Certificate of Good Health from the University Physician or Practicing Physician
- Endorsement of Center for Sports, Wellness, Culture and the Arts
- One (1) piece 2″x2″ picture
- Retention Policy
- He/she must be enrolled in at least 14 units to maximum of 21 units/semester;
- He/she obtained a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 80% or higher per semester and with no failing grade nor dropped subjects;
- He/she must complete a four-year program in five (5) years or a five-year program in six (6) years; and
- He/she must not have been subjected to any disciplinary action.
- Privileges
- 100% discount on tuition and selected miscellaneous fees for
- Applicants who passed the admission requirements
- Athletes with a GWA of 80% with no failing grade in any subject and a Performance Evaluation Rating (PER) of 4.5 or higher
- 75% discount on tuition and selected miscellaneous fees for athletes with a GWA of 80% with no failing grade in any subject and a Performance Evaluation Rating (PER) of 3.5 to 3.4
- 50% discount on tuition and selected miscellaneous fees for athletes with a GWA of 80% with no failing grade in any subject and a Performance Evaluation Rating (PER) of 3 to 3.4
3. Arts Scholarship- The scholarship covers chorale, dance troupe, theater, band, and string ensemble. It is open to students in all programs.
- Requirements
- U-CAT result with 75% API or higher
- Senior High School report card with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 82%
- Certificate of Good Moral Character from the Guidance Counselor or recommendation from the Parish Priest
- Certificate of Good Health from the University Physician or Practicing Physician
- Endorsement from the Center for Sports, Wellness, Culture and the Arts (CSWCA)
- One (1) piece 2″x2″ picture
- Retention Policy
- He/she must be enrolled in at least 14 units to maximum of 21 units/semester;
- He/she obtained a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 80% or higher per semester and with no failing grade nor dropped subjects;
- He/she must complete a four-year program in five (5) years or a five-year program in six (6) years; and
- He/she must not have been subjected to any disciplinary action.
- Privileges

4. Teacher Education Grant (c/o College of Arts, Sciences, and Education (CASE)) – The grant is awarded to takers of Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd).
- Requirements
- U-CAT result with 75% API or higher
- Senior High School report card with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 85% and above with no grade below 80% in all subjects.
- Certificate of Good Moral Character from the Guidance Counselor or recommendation from the Parish Priest
- Certificate of Good Health from the University Physician or Practicing Physician
- Endorsement from the Dean of College of Arts, Sciences and Education
- One (1) piece 2″x2″ picture
- Retention Policy
- He/she must be enrolled in the prescribed regular load;
- He/she must have a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 83% and above with no grade below 80% nor dropped subjects; and
- He/she must not have been subjected to any disciplinary action.
- Privileges
- 100% discount on tuition and miscellaneous fees
- Allowances (meals, uniform, transportation, books)
5. Student Assistantship Program – The Student Assistantship Program (SAP) is a scholarship for financially challenged but deserving students. It is open to students in selected programs.
- Requirements
- U-CAT result with 75% API or higher
- Senior High School report card with a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 83%
- Certificate of Good Moral Character from the Guidance Counselor or recommendation from the Parish Priest
- Certificate of Good Health from the University Physician or Practicing Physician
- One (1) original and one (1) photocopy of the latest Income Tax Return (ITR) of the parents or Certificate of Indigency or Certificate of Exemption of parents or head of the family from the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)
- Certification from the HRMO for passing the interview and apprenticeship
- One (1) piece 2″x2″ picture
- Retention Policy
- He/she must be enrolled in at least 14 units to maximum of 21 units/semester;
- He/she obtained a General Weighted Average (GWA) of 80% or higher per semester and with no failing grade nor dropped subjects;
- He/she must complete a four-year program in five (5) years or a five-year program in six (6) years; and
- He/she must not have been subjected to any disciplinary action.
- Privileges
- 100% discount on tuition and selected miscellaneous fees
- Allocated Average Monthly Family Income (AAMFI) is not more than P1,500.00
- Assets and Properties Assessment is at least 70 points
- Performance Evaluation Rating (PER) of 3.5 or higher
- Passed the Apprenticeship with a rating of 3.5 or higher (new)
- 75% discount on tuition and selected miscellaneous fees
- Allocated Average Monthly Family Income (AAMFI) is not more than P2,000.00 per family member
- Assets and Properties Assessment is no at least 60 points
- Performance Evaluation Rating (PER) of 3.5
- Passed the Apprenticeship with a rating of 3.5 (new)
- 50% discount on tuition and selected miscellaneous fees
- Allocated Average Monthly Family Income (AAMFI) is not more than P2,500.00 per family member
- Assets and Properties Assessment is no at least 50 points
- Performance Evaluation Rating (PER) of 3.0
- Passed the Apprenticeship with a rating of 3.0 (new)
6. Academic Scholarship – Open to students across all year levels, regardless of their chosen course.
EXTERNAL INSTITUTIONS AND AGENCIES
The University also welcomes scholarships and grants from external institutions and agencies (such as, but not limited to):

- Private Education Student Financial Assistance (PESFA)
- Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES)
- Education Service Contracting (ESC) – Available to incoming Junior High School students coming from public and private schools. The ESC program provides financial assistance to qualified students. Applicants from private institutions must submit a copy of their ESC Certificate.
- Senior High School Voucher Program (SHS VP) – Provides financial assistance in form of vouchers to qualified Senior High School learners enrolled in participating schools. Students from private institutions must submit a copy of their ESC Certificate. Students from public schools are automatically qualified for the SHS VP and are not required to apply.
