UST-LEGAZPI’S STAGE EARNS UNESCO CLUB ACCREDITATION

The University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi’s theater organization, STAGE (Sama-samang Tinig ng mga Aktor na Gumagalaw sa Entablado), has achieved a prestigious milestone as it was officially accredited member as a Club for UNESCO in the Philippines for 2024. This recognition was announced by the National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines (NCBCUP) on November 14, 2024, following a rigorous four-level screening process.

Out of 451 applicants who submitted their requirements by September 2, 2024, only 250 organizations passed the Level 1 screening. Subsequent stages included a Level 2 Panel Interview and a Level 3 Mentoring Session, further narrowing the field. Eventually, 104 organizations, including UST-Legazpi STAGE, successfully earned their accreditation.

Representing the University, STAGE Adviser Mr. Noel Armeña, along with members Shaira Mae Rogando and Joella Marie Balinis, proudly accepted the Certificate of Recognition and Accreditation during the International Assembly of Youth for UNESCO, with the theme “Empowering Communities through UNESCO Initiatives: Advancing Science and Technology, Cultural Creativity and Lifelong Learning” held on November 29, 2024, at City-States Asturias Hotel in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. This assembly marked a momentous achievement for UST-Legazpi as our STAGE organization joins the National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines.

The National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines (NCBUCP) aims to promote peace-building and cultural exchange through education, science, social sciences, technology, and communication strategies. It strives to establish grassroots initiatives in every province and create platforms that embody UNESCO’s ideals, particularly in implementing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).

Clubs for UNESCO are global grassroots movements aligned with the organization’s mission. These groups empower communities to foster understanding, cultural appreciation, and active peace-building efforts. Guided by UNESCO’s principles, the clubs are non-profit, independent entities dedicated to promoting UNESCO’s values and programs within their communities. The clubs under the National Coordinating Body of Clubs for UNESCO in the Philippines are monitored by the UNESCO National Commission of the Philippines (UNACOM) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).

This accreditation strengthens STAGE’s dedication to fostering cultural and creative education through the performing arts, aligning with UNESCO’s vision of building peace and understanding through diverse initiatives.
