After long gloomy days, the sun shone the brightest today for UST-Legazpi’s U-Week 2023!

Dressed in their respective department colors, Legazpi Thomasians paraded the streets within the Rawis Campus for the Jubilee Walk. This led to the assembly at the UST-Legazpi Dome for the Opening Salvo, the opening of the much-awaited university week and the celebration of UST-Legazpi’s 75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary.

Rev. Fr. Ramiro M. De Belen, OP, Vice President for Religious Affairs, took our Legazpi Thomasians down the memory lane as he recalled how the university transitioned from Legazpi College, then Aquinas University of Legazpi, to UST-Legazpi in its seven decades of existence.

“This diamond jubilee celebration that we are commemorating is our way of saying gratitude to God who by His grace and mercy allowed that small seed to grow into a covenant institution of learning here in the Bicol region,” Fr. Ram said.

“That seed produced hundreds or even thousands of Thomasian alumni who have become catalysts of change in our society. They have given significant contributions to the growth of our community and even our country,” the said Vice President added.

A short fashion show followed where every academic department battled on the stage through their best-dressed models who garnered the loudest cheers from their supporters.

As the highlight of the event, an Opening Salvo sent the Legazpi Thomasian energy to skyrocket as the AQUI Movers from the Basic Education and the UST-Legazpi Dance Troupe as they revived the greatest hits that UST-Legazpi covered since its beginning.

In the end, Marytina Raquel R. Bonganay, MOS, the Assistant to the Rector for Academic Affairs delivered her closing message by congratulating all Legazpi Thomasians who passed the venerable portals of UST-Legazpi.
