UNIV RECTOR SPEAKS AT GS LECTURE; ENCOURAGES USE OF SALAMANCA PROCESS IN RESEARCH

During the the Graduate School Lecture entitled Synergy Between Research and Salamanca Process, the participants were treated to an experience of a lifetime with UST-Legazpi’s Rector and President, Rev. Fr. Ernesto M. Arceo, OP, STL, PhD, as guest speaker.

From his usual institution leader aura, Fr. Ernie exuded a different persona that inspired his audience to respond in a fun and insightful way. The crowd was composed of the Faculty of Graduate School, Basic Education, and Tertiary Department, as well as students from the College of Law.

The Salamanca Process is a well-known service-learning process framework of every Dominican learning institution. The Dominican Order of Preachers believes that this method needs to be integrated in the university’s trifocal function: instruction, research, and extension.

By incorporating the Salamanca Process into its practices, UST-Legazpi will demonstrate its commitment to being a Dominican institution of higher learning and give Legazpi Thomasians a sense of identity and pride in their place in the academic community.

Discussing this matter on the university’s 75th founding anniversary calls for a time of reflection on what transformative educational programs UST-Legazpi can collaboratively initiate guided by the aforementioned technique and approach that the university is subscribed to.

In his last term as Rector and President, Rev. Fr. Arceo hopes to see the Salamanca Process embedded in research and translated into actions to promote truth amidst the challenges that the world is facing today.
