To shed light on how meaning is generated, disseminated, and produced from social, political, and economic spheres, the Bikol Studies Center (BSC) conducted this year’s Seminar-Workshop on Cultural Research on February 22-23, 2023, at UST-Legazpi’s Daragang Magayon Hall (DMH), The third day, which was planned to take place on February 24, was moved a week after, in adherence to the short-notice holiday implemented by President Marcos, Jr.
Even yet, the activity was a success since people came prepared and excited. Partakers this year came from nine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Bicol including UST-Legazpi.
The first day, hosted by Bicol University (BU), revolved around historical research with a keynote speech on conducting Anthropological Fieldwork and Ethnography as Cultural Research by Rev. Fr. Hermel O. Pama, O.P., Ph.D., who is currently based in Indonesia. Dr. Danilo M. Gerona from Partido State University (ParSU) followed with a discussion on Local History Research.
Divine Word College of Legazpi (DWCL) took charge of the second day that focused on Arts, Books, and Cinema with Kristan Sendon Cordero from Universidad de Santa Isabel as the resource speaker. Cordero is a Palanca winner and a multi-awarded artist.
On the other hand, the last leg of the said seminar-workshop took place through a full virtual platform with Dr. Jazmin B. Llana as the resource speaker. Dr. Llana, former dean of the liberal arts department of the university, discussed performances as a method in Cultural Research. The third and last day was hosted by Catanduanes State University.
