“Let this gathering be a celebration of life, a manifestation of love, a pursuit of truth, and an expression of profound gratitude. May the Legazpi Thomasian culture infuse every aspect of our time together, creating an atmosphere of unity, respect, and shared purpose” UST-Legazpi’s Rector and President, Rev. Fr. Edwin A. Lao, OP, MM, DBA, said at his welcome remarks during the PRISAA’s 2024 National Summit and Board Meeting held at the Premier Dominican University of Bicol last January 12, 2024.
Attended by regional sports officers and coaches of the Private School Athletics Association (PRISAA), officials from the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), members of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Legazpi City, the 2024 National Summit and Board Meeting of PRISAA was held at the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi as the said sporting event in the country takes place in Legazpi City this year.
Edgar C. Balasta, PRISAA President for 2023 – 2024 reminded everyone of the purpose of staging the annual PRISAA National Games, to “capacitate our people and capacitate our sports communities.”
Meanwhile, Mayor Carmen Geraldine Rosal warmly welcomed every delegate to the beautiful city of Legazpi highlighting that they “are committed to partnering with PRISAA and carefully planning the staging of the annual national games.”
UST-Legazpi’s Rector and President, Rev. Fr. Edwin A. Lao, OP, MM, DBA, also took his chance to personally welcome the summit and board meeting participants at the Premier Dominican University of Bicol. He called the said gathering as “a convergence of minds dedicated to the advancement of sports and the holistic development of our nation’s youth.”
UST-Legazpi, chosen as the venue for this prestigious event underscores its dedication to fostering a well-rounded approach to education. The university, according to Rev. Fr. Lao, is deeply honored to open its doors to the Regional Directors and High-Ranking Officials of PRISAA and the Philippine Sports Commission, as well as the athletes who will grace the sporting venues during the national games later this year at Legazpi City.
“This collaboration aligns with our university’s mission to contribute to the overall development of our youth through the promotion of physical wellness, sportsmanship, and teamwork,” Fr. Edwin said.
“The Legazpi Thomasian culture, inspired by the teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas, envelops us in the sanctity of life. Our commitment to fostering life goes beyond the classroom, echoing in the cheers of athletes and the camaraderie that will unfold in the coming months,” he continued.
The said leader hopes that this summit will be a shining example of excellence and collaboration for the advancement of Philippine sports.
On the other hand, the 2024 PRISAA National Games will run from July 13 – 20 of this year in Legazpi – the City of Fun and Adventure.
